Design Case Study
This project was for an existing client for whom I had previously carried out a significant amount of consultancy work. As this was a large, longer-term undertaking, my client wanted me to take full control of the room redesign and therefore opted for the
Bespoke Room Design Package.
The first step was to develop a design concept based on detailed information gathered from my client. I created a mood board with a supporting booklet to clearly convey the proposed style, colour palette, materials, and overall aesthetic of the intended design. Following further discussion and refinement, I went on to produce a comprehensive Bespoke Design Package, providing everything required to complete the project.
Throughout the process, I worked closely with my client, offering guidance where requested and responding to their input and decisions at key stages to bring the overall design vision to life.

I feel it is important to note that, at the time these photographs were taken, the room had not yet been fully accessorised and still required finishing touches such as lamps, ornaments, plants and wall hangings - details that make a real difference in bringing a room together.
In my initial design concept, I suggested painting the stonework, including both the inside and outside of the fireplace, as I felt this would make a real difference in freshening up the room. After giving it some thought, my client felt this was too bold a step, as it couldn’t easily be reversed, and chose against it. This wasn’t an issue, as the lighter paint colours, wallpaper and fabrics I had selected still ensured the room felt bright and warm.

Similarly, as part of the design package, I suggested bespoke units with integrated lighting to span one wall and frame the doorway, along with a matching bespoke unit beneath the window designed to conceal the television. After consideration, my client decided not to go ahead with this option and instead sourced their own units, which I was then able to paint and update with new handles to help them sit comfortably within the overall scheme.
I made all of the scatter cushions and softened the fitted lighting throughout. Where possible, I like to incorporate a unique piece of hand-painted furniture into a design, and in this case it was a vintage side unit which I upcycled in a bold green.
I made all of the bespoke window dressings, a key part of any room design, beginning with the bay window. This was fitted with seven motorised, double-lined cascading roman blinds in an off-white embroidered design, paired with pooled dress curtains and pelmet in a contrasting modern floral fabric. The leading and bottom edges of the curtains, along with the bottom edge of the pelmet, were finished with a hand-sewn bobble trim in a seafoam colour.
The dress curtains were particularly challenging, as they needed to accommodate two different ceiling heights. Two separate curtains were therefore made to appear as one continuous curtain. The leading edges were angled so that, when pulled back, they sat at the same level as the rest of the curtain, and careful pattern matching was required. Handmade tie backs were created to give a relaxed, loosely tied finish.
The smaller windows were dressed with double-lined cascading roman blinds in the same modern floral fabric, finished with pelmets in a complimentary linen and matching trim.
The doorway was finished with double-lined, floor-length curtains in the same modern floral fabric, with goblet headings and a long seafoam fringe trim along the bottom edge, adding a striking finishing touch. These were hung on a tracked pole to give a clean, modern look, with handmade tie backs in the same linen used for the window pelmets.

Sarah has designed several rooms for me and I am delighted with the result of each room. She takes on board all my requirements and wants in the room and produces the most beautiful mood boards with options to choose from. I love the way she will come up with ideas and options that I would never think of, but they are exactly what I want. Her vision for a room is incredible - she is a very talented, creative lady. Sarah has also made the most stunning curtains and blinds for me, up cycled and painted furniture to create stunning items. I have no hesitation recommending Sarah.
